Professional Development Options for Schools and Districts

Professional Development Options for Schools and Districts

We began implementing Empowering Writers in Bryant two years ago. Empowering Writers provides rich literacy instruction that guides students as both readers and writers. Our teachers benefited greatly from the excellent professional development alongside the digital guides that Empowering Writers organized to match our district needs.  The accessible, sustainable lessons found in the HUB instill confidence in teachers which transfers into quality, systematic, and explicit instruction.  The improvements in our students' language comprehension, text analysis, constructed response, and writing skills were immeasurable!
- Linda Clark, K-5 District Literacy Specialist
Bryant Public Schools

With countless years of combined classroom experience, we know the importance of hands-on training and professional development for every writing and ELA teacher. We design our extensive on-site and online programs to help teachers provide a consistent and effective learning experience focused on the writing discipline.

And, you can find it all with Empowering Writers.

One way to keep implementation on track and assure successful results is to meet with an Empowering Writers' master trainer at points during the school year. We offer brisk, 45-minute online sessions.

Our webinars provide an easy way for teachers to:

  • Inform their instruction and answer their questions
  • Assess their students' work with our trainer
  • Review aspects of instruction
  • Get ready for state assessments

We recommend three webinars during the school year with an EW Master Trainer which include:

  • Kick-off session to introduce EW to the team and prepare teachers for the first 6-8 weeks of instruction
  • Check-in session for Q&A with grade levels to maintain accountability and keep implementation on track
  • Assessment prep session to focus instruction on pertinent writing skills and test-taking strategies

Empowering Writers Testimonials

Just wanted you to know that my 4th-grade team officially announced that we had the highest TAKS scores for Writing in the El Paso Independent School District. This data speaks volumes since our school is a Title 1 campus. I have shared what I do with my team, and the results speak for themselves.

- Emily Delgado, 4th-Grade Teacher

Empowering Writers is why we are an exemplary writing school. EW made all the difference.

- Jeaneen Tucker, School Principal

Students who scored a 1/1 on their open response writing last year are now scoring a 3/3. These scores are a huge improvement, especially when I have only been doing these writing activities for three months – we already see a rise in scores. I have never, in my ten years of teaching, had a group of kids more excited to write!

- Melissa Zeitz, Special Education

At long last, teachers have a systematic, comprehensive approach to targeted techniques necessary for "good writing," even for our youngest writers.

- Mary Beth Stickley, Director of Early Childhood Department
