April Dykes
District Service Director
April has been a key part of Empowering Writers since 2013. There, she supports educators at all levels—teachers to superintendents—helping them explore and implement EW’s approach to literacy. Her passion lies in collaborating with educators to meet their unique goals for student success. From initial implementation to year-over-year partnerships, April is dedicated to guiding teachers on a continuous growth journey in their practice and lifelong learning.
What brought April to Empowering Writers? In her own words: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi. At the time, with four young children, Empowering Writers offered her the chance to share her southern hospitality, type-A personality, and commitment to service in a way that could positively impact educators—and the countless students they teach.
