We are so happy you're here.

Hear it from a happy 5th grade teacher:

Empowering Writers is an amazing program; it is one of the few methodologies I have used in my 28 years of teaching which I can implement immediately. The foundation for teaching students how to write is presented in as easy to follow format that helps students gain confidence from the start! Students excited about writing equals Empowering Writers." – Jan Rampey, Grade 5 Teacher (Texas)

How Can Empowering Writers Help Me?

Hi, I am Dea Auray, founder of Empowering Writers and I'm a teacher too. In my first year of teaching, I stood in my classroom wondering how I was going to teach writing to my students. It felt overwhelming and frustrating because I just couldn't find the right resources to aid my instruction.

I also knew I had a responsibility to prepare every student for statewide testing and I recognized that strong writing skills were a critical part of the standards evaluation. I turned to my colleague and mentor and together we developed a writing curriculum that we used, tested, and developed in our own classrooms. In a few years, we had gained a 45-point increase in state writing scores and had created a classroom bursting with enthusiastic young writers. That's how Empowering Writers came to be.

As a teacher, it's easy to feel unsure of exactly how to teach writing especially since it wasn't something most of us teachers learned in college. Plus, today, there's so much pressure around testing - to exceed state standards and raise student test scores, you may not know how to do that. Yet, writing is an integral part of, and often the key to, improving student performance across all subjects.

Rest assured, we've got you covered.

We have been developing and adapting curriculum to achieve your state standards for the past 24 years. Empowering Writers supports your teaching efforts with a knowledgeable team ready to provide instruction and answer your questions online,

Last year was my first year to teach 6th grade ELA. I was very worried about teaching writing. EmpoweringWriters' lessons were so fun and engaging that the students gained confidence in their writing skills (just like I did)! When I finally got to see the results of the ACT Aspire test I was literally in tears. Some of my lowest achieving students scored above the 90th percentile in writing!" – Tricia S., Grade 6 Teacher (Arkansas)

Praise from a Principal:

We have ABSOLUTELY seen an improvement in reading comprehension. Students are reading for purpose. They are looking for answers, or at least clues, using a format they know will provide results, they just have to unlock the truth in front of them." – Brian Delaney, Principal (Massachusetts)
