February 12 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

This workshop is intended for teachers of students grades 4, 5 and 7, who have PREVIOUSLY been trained with Empowering Writers in Expository and Opinion Writing. This will NOT replace the skill-building instruction that you are currently delivering, but will prepare students to demonstrate the writing skills they’ve learned within the imposed time-limit on the ACT ASPIRE. If you have implemented the lessons throughout the year and are looking for a comprehensive review of each of the skills, while also providing test-taking strategies, this workshop is for you!

Participants will work through a 7-day extensive plan to provide students with a comprehensive review and multiple opportunities to practice:

  • analyzing prompts

  • making quick decisions during the prewriting and planning phase

  • using questioning techniques to elaborate

  • analyzing responses in relationship to a rubric

  • pacing/ time management

Required Resources: Digital license to Arkansas Expository Assessment Review Set grades 4, 5 or 7 with access through the Hub.  Includes comprehensive lesson plans for teachers and direct-to-student videos to initiate each lesson along with downloadable student materials. License good through June 30, 2020.
