Instead of Monsters don’t forget how powerful the questions “What does it ‘look’ like, why is it important?” can be in elaborating on facts in expository, opinion, and argument writing. Think about it… elaboration in your science unit!
Ex. The student writes:
You can find all kinds of baby sea creatures in the saltmarsh.
By applying “What does it ‘look’ like, why is it important?” that fact can be extended to something like this:
The sheltered, calm waters of the saltmarsh, thick with sea grasses provides a protected environment for baby fish and crustaceans to hide from enemies and grow to adulthood without the predators and challenges of the open seas.
Model this skill whenever the opportunity arises.
