Grade 5

March 2019 Grades 5-8 Lesson of the Month

How do you teach types of sentences so that students are able to understand the concept and use them with fidelity in their compositions? This lesson is a great way to introduce the types of sentences and continue to spiral the concept throughout the school year, applying the skills to several personal experiences so that students see how to create a variety of sentences in their own writing. Use a selection of published examples either from the samples that are shared here or from a read aloud you are teaching with currently.

February 2019 Grades 3-5 Lesson of the Month

This time of year can become a little stressful trying to cram in as many skills and strategies as possible, in preparation for state testing. Students, as well as teachers, start to feel the stress level rising. In order to build in some social-emotional learning, this lesson will offer your students the language they might need to express their emotions. Build in plenty of time to discuss their emotions and allow students a chance to build an awareness for how they’re feeling. You will love this writing lesson that can be utilized in your reading block as well!
