How do we know it works?
Over a five-year period, our students improved their narrative writing scores on the Connecticut Mastery Test by 45 points! Our students’ achievement was not only reflected in test scores, but more importantly, in the development of a community of enthusiastic, confident writers. These results are not exclusive to our Connecticut students. For example, fourth grade students in our pilot program in a Johnston County, North Carolina school scored 91% on the 2002 state writing test. In fact, based on national writing assessments, CT students, thousands of whom have benefited from Empowering Writers instruction, rank number one in the nation!
